Those twisty bracelets are usually called friendship bracelets or peace bracelets, and they are a fun project that you can do alone or with your friends. I agree that starting them is the hard part. Once you have them started, the rest is easy. Following are complete instructions for making your very own.
To get started, you will need a few basic supplies. One bracelet requires four strands of colored embroidery thread. To start out, I recommend using four different colors, but after you get the hang of it, there are some cool patterns you can create with only two colors. Other materials you will need are scissors, a ruler and some tape.
The first thing you want to do is measure out your strands to 24 inches each and cut them. Holding all four strands together, loop one end around itself and tie it in a knot. Next, tape the loose threads of the knotted end to a table or chair or anything else that will hold it securely and allow you to work.
The basic twist bracelet is the easiest. All you have to do is hold the threads together and start twisting them. When the strands shorten to about 17 inches long, hold the twist with one hand while you place a finger from your other hand in the middle of the twisted threads. Fold the threads over your finger, and then remove your finger. The threads will twist around themselves. Finally, all you have to do is tie the free end, leaving some loose threads so you can tie the bracelet together in a loop.
Another popular pattern for friendship bracelets is the standard braid. For this type of bracelet, you only need three strands of thread. Start it off the same as the twist bracelet, but instead of twisting, separate all three strands. Take the left strand an move it to the center. Next, take the right strand and move it to the center. Repeat the process for the entire length of the strands, tightening it as you go. Tie and the end in a knot, and your bracelet is finished.
