why do male dogs lift their hind legs to pee?

To add to the other post, a male dog can aim it's stream to better mark a object or area, where as a female can only squat to mark.

First of all, male dogs pee to mark territory, or just to relieve themselves. They lift one of their back legs while peeing to make the urine look higher, which makes other dogs think that the dog is tall and big. Hope this helped!
