Mr. Boxy
Warts are skin growths caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV.) There are over 130 known strains of this virus, which are classed by their shape or the part of the body they attack. The most common HPV are classified as types 1, 2, and 3. Type 1 warts are found on palms and the soles of feet, type 2 covers a wide range of bumpy warts, and type 3 are flat warts.

Genital HPV, mostly from types 6 and 11, is the most common form of sexually transmitted disease. Warts by themselves aren't dangerous, but can be very annoying. However, there are some strains of HPV, types 16 and 18 in particular, can cause cancer, particularly cervical cancer. You can learn more here (NSFW, obviously):

The most common treatment for warts is salicylic acid, the same active ingredient in most acne mediation. This can take several days or weeks to kill off the virus. Dermatologists can also freeze off warts, and there are now kits to do this procedure at home. Warts should not be cut off, as this can spread the virus, creating more warts.
