To be sure, there are as many types of brownies in the world as there are types of cookies, but a basic made-from-scratch brownie goes a long way. Once you get the basic recipe down, the variations are mostly simple additions. Unless, for some reason, you have to, dont go with the pre-mixed brownies. It is cheaper to make them from scratch and the results are much better as well.
To make basic brownies, you will need the following ingredients:
2 oz unsweetened cocoa
½ cup butter
2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
Ύ cup flour
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Soften the butter so that it is room temperature. Add eggs, sugar, cocoa, and vanilla. Mix with a wooden spoon until creamy. Fold the flour into the mix slowly. When wet, stir about 20 strokes. It is okay if the mix is a little lumpy. Grease an 8 x 8 or 9 x 9 baking pan. It can be metal or glass. You can use vegetable shortening, vegetable oil, or butter to grease the pan. Add the brownie mix to the pan and even out the top. Bake for 30 35 minutes. Time will vary from oven to oven. They are done when you can insert a toothpick in the center and pull it out clean. When finished, cool on a wire rack.
To make your brownies extra-special, you can add some other ingredients to the mix. Nuts are always a favorite, with walnuts and pecans being the most common. Milk chocolate bits or M&Ms are also a tasty addition. You can also top with caramel or frosting.
