It's easy for High School.

A=4 B=3 C=2 D=1 F=0

You divide the amount of points you end up with by the number of classes you took.

For example: A,A,A,B,C,

that is... 4+4+4+3+2 divided by five. so my GPA would be 3.4

You'll need to know the grade point you received for each class. The grade point system varies by school. Overall, the grade point for an A is a 4.0, a B is a 3.0, a C is a 2.0, and a D is a 1.0. Some schools also use half-points for letter grades ending in a + or -, for example a B+ would be a 3.5. Honors classes may be counted higher, with most institutions adding an additional point: a B in an honors class has a grade point of 4.0.

Let's say you have four classes. You get two A's, a B, and a C, which would give you grade points of 4, 4, 3, and 2. Since there are four classes, you would divide this by 4.

(4+4+3+2)/4

(13)/4

3.25

Your GPA is 3.25.

If you're in college, your scores will be weighted by credit hours. If you have a B in a three hour class and a C in a five hour class, you would add the grade point for each hour: 3 3.0's and 5 2.0's. You then divide this number by the total number of credit hours, 8.

([3+3+3] + [2+2+2+2+2])/8

(9 + 10)/8

(19)/8

2.375

Your GPA is 2.375.
