If you’ve just started to learn the guitar, stringing the guitar is important because, sooner or later, one or more of your strings is going to break. Have a couple extra of each string available. Try to make sure they are all the same brand and type of string. Some good brands are D’Addario and Ernie Ball. Professionals and other serious players change all their strings should a single string break. In any case, it is usually recommended to change one string at a time. Remove the string from the peg and then pull it out of the bridge. One end of the string will be capped and this side is held in place by the bridge. Some strings have to be threaded through holes in the bridge and others fit in through open slots. Align the string on the grooves of the bridge and then along the nut slot. Hold the string up off the neck about 2 inches, and feed the rest through the peg. This ensures that you can wind the peg about three times before the string is taught. Before you start winding, you will want to bend the end of the string just on the other side of the peg hole. When winding the peg, always make sure you turn it clockwise. Get the string in tune and then stretch it upward about half-way down. Tune again. Stretch one more time and give the string one final tuning to complete the process.
