Hairstyling takes a lot of practice, and good hairstyles usually involve several hours work or a trip to the salon. If you don’t have a lot of money, you can attempt to style your own hair, but allow yourself the time to get it right if you don’t have a lot of experience. You will want to have some large pictures of the hairstyle you would like. You can tape them to the mirror so they are easy to see as you work. Hairstyling will require several tools of the trade. You will need a hairbrush, at least two combs, a blow dryer, a curling iron, and an electric straightener. You will also need several hair products: shampoo, conditioner, serum, hairspray, gel, and pomade. You will not need every one of these products, but having them all will increase the choice in styles that are possible.
The first thing you will want to do is shampoo and condition your hair. It is always best to work with clean hair. Try to work your hair into a style that your hair naturally falls into. Over shaping your hair will only make it look fake and strained. Also, try not to change the basic nature of your hair. If your hair is really curly, don’t straighten it too much. If your hair is sleek and straight, don’t use too many curls. If you do make some changes to your natural hair, don’t change it every day or you run the risk of damaging your hair. You will usually want to style your hair in layers to make it more manageable. Long layers work well for thick hair, while short layers will add volume.
