Pasta is just about the easiest thing you can make for yourself. Not only do most pastas come with directions right on the package, you don't even really need them to make pasta well! Paying attention is just about the only skill you have to have, and you can make pretty much any pasta out there, particularly the dried pastas found in most grocery stores.
Boil a large pot of water. You want to have enough that the total amount of pasta you want to cook can move around freely in the pot.
Add about half a teaspoon of salt to the water, which helps the water boil faster. Also add a tablespoon of olive oil, to keep the pasta from sticking once you add it.
Once the water is at a rolling boil (which means when it's making big fat bubbles, and LOTS of them,) gently dump in the pasta you want to cook. Stir it around once or twice to prevent sticking, and wait.
The time the pasta takes to cook will be different for each kind, so look at the package for directions on how long to let it boil. I just let it cook and taste it occasionally. You want it to be soft enough to eat, but with a little bite.
When it's as cooked as you want it, being careful of the steam, pour the whole pot, water and all, into a colander to drain.
That's it! You can put it back into the pot and add sauces, or just eat as is, with butter and cheese! Now enjoy your pasta!
