Some do and some dont. People have to be thought of as individuals. Rarely can a group of individuals all meet the same criteria unless the criteria are very specific. Most women live longer than men, but not all of them do. Lifespan depends on several different factors also. If you are comparing women in Somalia with men in Japan, then the answer changes. Most Japanese men live longer than Somali women. You must also factor in medical treatment available to the two groups. Wealth plays a role, too. Wealthy men live longer than most poor women. As a general rule, however, when every other factor is equal, most women do outlive men.
In the United States, the life expectancy of a female born in 2009 is 80.69 years. The life expectancy for an American male born in 2009 is only 75.65 years. There are only 6 out of 223 countries in the world where the life expectancy of men is higher than that of women. Each of these 6 countries is a poor African nation with very low life expectancy. They are Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Mozambique, and Lesotho. Of these, Namibia has the highest life expectancy at 51.24 years.
Scientists say that the reason most women live longer than men is because they tend to develop heart disease or have strokes at later ages than men. Men often develop these problems between the ages of 50 and 69. A lot of women do not develop these problems until they are in their 70s or later. Doctors still do not exactly know why this is. Some say it is the work of genetics and others say it is due to environmental factors. It is probably a little of both.
