Bones do have some flexibility, but will break if exposed to too much pressure, trauma, or sudden impact. The number of ways in which people can and do break bones is virtually limitless -- from falling off a ladder to accidents during activities like rollerblading or skateboarding.

Speaking from personal experience -- and anyone who's ever broken a bone will back me up on this -- it is not recommended that anyone tries to intentionally break a bone. It's, eh, somewhat painful. Additionally, although most broken bones can heal over time, it's possible to break or shatter bones in such a way that they never heal properly and the sufferer is left with a limp or minor disfigurement.

I think there is another question on this site titled What happens when you break a bone? Check that out for more info.
