June bugs are beetles. Like butterflies and moths, beetles have eggs, a worm-like part of their life cycle (called a grub), a pupa ( in butterflies moths this is sometimes called a cocoon), and an adult (beetle). During most of the year, they are living in the soil as grubs, eating the roots of the grass in your yard. They are dormant as grubs during winter, and sometime in spring, they become a pupa. They emerge from their pupa and out of the soil in late spring and early summer to start the cycle again.
