Mr. Boxy
Despite being associated with summer, mosquitoes can't withstand heat or direct sunlight very well. During the day, they find a cool, dark place to hide, like the underside of a leaf. They tend to stay around flowering plants, as they mainly subsist on nectar. Only females need to eat blood, and then only when producing egg yolk proteins for reproduction.

Ponds and puddles are particularly attractive, as the evaporation keeps them moist and the still water gives females a place to lay their eggs. They don't like the dry air produced by air conditioners, but that doesn't mean they'll avoid your house. Houseplants give the bugs a natural spot to rest and keep the air moist, while garages protect mosquitoes from direct sun and heat exposure.
