New discoveries are what keep the wheels of science turning and our knowledge base expanding. Because each new step, no matter how small, leads us every onward, it is important to share new discoveries with the scientific community. This not only helps spread the word, but it also gives other scientists the change to review and assess the discovery.
One of the easiest and most far-reaching ways to share a new scientific discovery is through the Internet. Several websites are available for just such a purpose. The best websites are government websites and those of educational institutions. They can be differentiated by their Internet address ending in either .gov or .edu. These websites have the most credence, as they are known for presenting only authentical discoveries.
The only problem with writing about a new scientific discovery, is that they usually must be professional discoveries or discoveries that strictly follow the scientific method. Many new discoveries are made by university researchers following strict guidelines.
Some of the government websites on which to publish scientific discoveries are as follows:
National Science Foundation (http://www.nsf.gov/discoveries/)
The National Science Foundation is dedicated to creating knowledge and expanding human prosperity.
NASA Science, Science News (http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/_
This is the official website of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. They are dedicated to publishing scientific discoveries related to space and astronomy.
U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (http://www.hhs.gov/)
The U.S. HHS often publishes medical science discoveries. This department also awards grants and can provide funding for scientists working on new discoveries.
Some great websites from educational institutions that share new scientific discoveries include the following:
California Institute of Technology, Division of Geological and Planetary Sciences (http://www.gps.caltech.edu/)
This website publishes official geological and astronomical discoveries made at Cal Tech.
University of Maryland, TerpConnect (http://terpconnect.umd.edu/)
This website is for the Office of Information Technology for University of Maryland students. Students working on scientific research may request a personal blog to communicate their discoveries.
Columbia University, New Inventions/New Discoveries (http://stv.columbia.edu/assets/STV's%20Success%20Stories.pdf)
This small print publication from Columbia University is also available in PDF format. It features some of the top scientific discoveries to come out of the university.
